Introducing Nikolaj Callesen

`SPOR´ by Nikolaj Callesen

Project by RENEGADE SCREEN

In my practice I seek to let considerations on culture and environment influence and inform my experience and skills as a photographer and as an author of short prose texts. I try to let layers of importance and significance, i.e. contemporary cultural themes such as climate environment, digital culture and sociality, unfold through the more practical and craftmanslike approach to using the camera. This also involves the activities of hiking and walking, sensing and facilitating the meet-up in portrait situations. In short, thinking and consideration is merged with the practicality of `taking the picture’...........   Nikolaj Callesen

GALVIN HARRISON + VIVIAN BERG

EASTER EXHIBITION 2016
JÆGERSPRIS CASTLE - DENMARK
The artists Galvin Harrison and Vivian Berg were invited to participate at the annual Easter Exhibition that takes place at Jægerspris Castle in Denmark. The exhibition was divided into two distinct separate visual experiences with paintings from Vivian Berg adorning the walls of the Rebekkasalen. The paintings had been duly selected from her `MEANDER´ series of works.
The contribution from Galvin Harrison comprised of an installation from his `BLOSSOM´ series of sculptures. The exhibition was curated as a joint project that involved the contribution of Malthe Enevoldsen acting for the estate of Vivian Berg who tragically died January 3rd 2016. It was unamaniously decided in her absence that a fitting tribute would be to celebrate Vivian Berg´s life as an artist by proceeding with the already planned exhibition.

NEW PUBLICATION BY PEPERONI BOOKS

Inside Out Kochi

Photographs by André Lützen

Kochi, State of Kerala, India – Monsoon Season.

For ›Inside Out Kochi‹ André Lützen traveled to the harbour city in southwest India. And as in the predecessor ›Zhili Byli‹ with photographs from the Russian city of Arkhangelsk, he was mostly interested in the people, young and old, men and women, their habitat, private and public, in- and outdoors, and how they arrange themselves.

The climate plays a role, the monsoon. The streets are wet, rain falls, the humidity hangs heavy in the air. The people hardly move, they lie, sit or stand. There is a sense of immobility and paralysis. But, and also this is visible in Lützen's images, it is not only the monsoon. The colonial past, the difficult economic situation that makes it hard for many to ensure their survival, the uncertain future of the region - all of this is painfully palpable. But we also see moments with people at one with themselves.

The book shows a city and a people in search of identity, stuck between tradition and modernity in a globalized world.

A third volume with pictures from Khartoum, capital of Sudan, is in preparation and will be released 2017.
